Modern Photographic Techniques
by Wolfgang Freihen
From the book's jacket:
With the help of many photographs and examples of techniques, the book explains how best to compose effective pictures, what the effects of lines, colors, and textures are, how a particular trick of the light can be used or eliminated, when flash should be used, and how the viewpoint can significantly influence the quality of your picture.
The book includes sections on how to treat people in front of the camera, how to photograph children playing, and how to record impressions of a foreign country. Tips are given for taking portraits in the studio or outside, and for nude and glamour photography. Various special effects--such as blurring the image slightly to give the impression of motion--are described, and practical applications are suggested for these techniques: sections on photographing sports, panoramas, and technical subjects, and on producing macro-photographs and close-ups, expand the theme. The techniques of artificial lighting--arranging lamps for low- or high-key work, flash, background projection--are fully discussed.
